The Seasons Merge Upon Us

The Seasons merge upon us,

Holiday songs play non-stop.

Sentiment prompts emotions,

and can in an instant drop.

The stores start to decorate,

all the neighbors join in too.

The pressure can start to build,

traffics’ crazy, crowds a zoo.

Commercials show us great deals,

for your friends and family lists.

If we are not careful, the

Christmas Spirit we will miss.

We change priorities,

and we ponder the reason.

Try to make our lives reflect,

true meaning of the Season.

Memories of Holidays,

bad ones we try to ignore.

Holidays to remember,

all ideas we explore.

Perfect Family Holiday,

is constantly what we hear.

My family is quite broken,

estranged, scattered and not near.

My holidays never match

the words expressed in the songs.

No matter how hard I try,

the lyrics tend to be wrong.

And when it’s time to schedule,

Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

In-laws, family and children,

complicate it all the way.

Try to be a peace maker,

but instead I’m filled with pain.

Wonder if other families…

have it easy or the same.

I am filled with emotions,

some I can not seem to name.

But mainly guilt for choices,

And consequences that came.

So I need to remember,

that the Spirit is alive.

Not in traditions or gifts,

but from the heart deep in side.

Creating my Holidays,

is completely up to me.

What I chose to celebrate,

Is as open as can be.

So do not be discouraged,

keep the Christmas spirit near.

And be content with your life,

embrace all that you hold dear.
