It’s a New Day!

It is a new day for me. I have change my career from full time Counselor to full time Art Teacher. About 5 years ago my job as a manager stopped due to downsizing from the company in which I worked. So while I was on unemployment and looking for a new job…while being in my 50’s…I decided I needed a change in vocation.

I decided to pray specifically for my hearts desire. I asked the Lord, “Please give me a job where I can do art everyday.”

I had made a promise to myself about 15 years prior to always be working on a painting. I had purchased a drafting desk and had a couple art shows where I had success. I love painting and creating.

I began volunteering at Columbia Christian Schools in the Art Department and substitute teaching where ever the school needed. I had a 30 hour counseling job and a part-time retail job at the same time. I was working around 50 hours a week at three jobs. After a couple of years…Columbia Hired me part-time as their Art /Health Teacher. I pared down my hours at the other two jobs…but was now working 60-65 hours a week. After a year I dropped the Retailed job and went to full time at Columbia. After 6 months of working 6 days a week and about 50 hours a week…I dropped the Saturday counseling job. Now I am only working one job…Art Teacher at Columbia Christian Schools.

It has been a long journey. I have now been at Columbia teaching Art for the past two years. I feel so blessed being in this position. The work is so full filling and gives back so much to me. The children ranging from 5 years old to 18 show me so much love and admiration…I am unable to express my gratitude. I walk the same halls that I did over 40 years ago when I attended and graduated from Columbia Christian College. I have come home. Next school year…I will start my third year at CCS as their Art Teacher.

My prayer to the Lord 5 years ago…answered. It is a New Day! Never close the doors to your heart desire!

I am so happy to hear this! You have such skill, and more importantly love and enthusiasm for people that I can only imagine the blessing you are. Your wry sense of humor will not hurt you with those teens.
