We all are assigned one life to live. Some use the analogy that we are dealt cards to play similar to a game of poker. Others say they feel like they are playing a giant and very long chess game. I like to visualize it as journey along a path. Life is like a hike where the road twists and turns, peaks and valleys and rivers to cross. Sometimes we face trouble along the way and other times we have a peaceful trek. We experience hardship, sorrow and loss as well as love and pure joy.
I also use the analogy of a ship sailing towards a destination. This works especially well with a team that is working together with a mutual goal. “All hands on deck”… “rowing in the same direction”…”setting a course”…or “following your compass”, they have all been used by many a human trying to live the best life possible.
However you look at life…it’s important that you spend time reflecting on how it is going for you. It is important to have some sort of plan and dream for how you want to live.
So many people live their lives one day at a time, on automatic pilot without really making the decision to make their desires come true. Some people plan to the greatest detail at the beginning and then go on automatic without checking in with themselves as to how things are going. Then there are others who make plans at an early age and take advantage of every opportunity to make great things happen in their lives. They are able to shape their lives and keep a hold of their hopes and dreams. They learn from their failures and keep trying to make a success of their lives.
It makes you wonder why we are all so different in our life goals. I suspect that the answers are endless. I enjoy hearing clients share their stories with me and watching as they make their dreams come true. I have great passion for helping clients unravel a mess in their lives and get back on the path of their choosing.
I have learned to enjoy the journey. No matter how hard or rough the seas are or how crazy things get…look at the positive and keep going. Keep adjusting, stay steady and ready for the unexpected. Enjoy the simple pleasures along the way, the gifts your receive and what you give to others. Listen to those who possess wisdom, never stop asking questions and learn from others mistakes. Don’t spend a lot of time with feelings of regret of the past. We can always rebuild.
We have one life to live, we can’t go back and start over. We must go forward. We can only strive to create a fulfilling life, one that brings us happiness and joy. When we get to the end of our journey…we will have left a legacy on which to be proud.
